Othello texts and contexts8/28/2023 Shakespeare was a respected poet and playwright in his own day, but his reputation did not rise to its present heights until the nineteenth century. Many of his plays were published in editions of varying quality and accuracy during his lifetime, and in 1623, two of his former theatrical colleagues published the First Folio, a collected edition of his dramatic works that included all but two of the plays now recognised as Shakespeare's. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights. Next he wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest examples in the English language. His early plays were mainly comedies and histories, genres he raised to the peak of sophistication and artistry by the end of the sixteenth century. Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 15. Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive, and there has been considerable speculation about such matters as his sexuality, religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others. He appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613, where he died three years later. Between 15 he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part owner of the playing company the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. Scholars believe that he died on his fifty-second birthday, coinciding with St George’s Day.Īt the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, who bore him three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon. His plays have been translated into every major living language, and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. His surviving works consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "The Bard"). All Rights Reserved.William Shakespeare (baptised 26 April 1564) was an English poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. Before this, all the characters, whether male or female, were played exclusively by men. This production is of particular importance because it marked the first time a woman was accepted on the English stage. High view point pretty landscape8/28/2023 Also changing room cubicles are incredibly small and we could not find any family ones. Only real negatives was the fact that having spent £80+ to visit they then want more money to park and then again more money to have a locker! I did think this was poor and left a bitter taste in my mouth. New slides are great however are already starting to look like they need some TLC especially in the exit area which is sad as they are only 18 months old. Also not too crowded considering it was a Saturday and the number of slides help to disperse people and keep queue times down. Some areas were a little tired but on the whole a really great day. I had not been since I was a kid about 15 years ago and it was exactly the same except for the 4 new slides in tornado alley. We took our 6 year old and we all really enjoyed it. Well done, World of Wedgwood, Josiah would be proud of you! Highly recommended for a relaxing and fun day. All the staff that we spoke to were helpful, informed and eager to please. We had a mooch around the shop stocked with items made by the talented folk of Staffordshire, and ended our day with a wander through the V&A ceramics display which was fascinating. Our waitress, Kirsty, had an admirable knowledge of the menu and the teas on offer! After a leisurely break it was up to the clay studio to have a go on potter's wheel, supervised by the very friendly and talented Sam, where we each made a couple of items that will be fired and sent on to us in a couple of weeks. Later we enjoyed a delicious, fresh and tasty afternoon tea. She was very knowledgeable and introduced many of the staff by name. It began with a welcome drink in the beautifully decorated restaurant, followed by a tour of the factory with our guide, Penny. Such a fabulous day at the World of Wedgwood for a Ceramics Experience and Afternoon Tea.

Edwin l drake invention8/28/2023 Within a day of Drake's striking oil, Drake’s methods were soon imitated by others. While some claims of prior art do exist, the Drake Well at Titusville was the first well to be widely copied. Drake was summoned and the oil was brought to the surface with a hand pitcher pump. He was surprised and delighted to see crude oil rising up. The next morning Drake’s driller, Billy Smith, looked into the hole in preparation for another day’s work. On August 27th Drake had persevered and his drill bit had reached a total depth of 69.5 feet (21 m). Amazingly the Seneca Oil Company had abandoned their man and Drake had to rely on friends to back the enterprise. Meanwhile crowds of people began to gather to jeer at the apparently unproductive operation. After initial difficulty locating the necessary parts to build the well, which resulted in his well being nicknamed "Drake's Folly," Drake proved successful. Progress was made at the rate of just three feet (1 m) per day. The drilling tools were now lowered through the pipe and steam was used to drill through the bedrock. The pipe was driven down into the ground. This cast iron pipe consisted of ten foot long joints. It was at this point that he devised the idea of a drive pipe. At 16 feet (5 m) the sides of the hole began to collapse. It took some time for the drillers to get through the layers of gravel. The well was dug on an artificial island on the Oil Creek. When attempts to dig huge shafts in the ground failed due to water seepage, Drake decided to drill in the manner of salt drillers. This was not enough to make a commercial yield sustainable. He had limited success, but was only able to extract a maximum of 10 barrels (1.6 m³) per day. In 1857 and again in 1858 Drake searched for oil in and around Titusville. He used an old steam engine to power the drill. Drake decided that the best way to find oil was to dig for it. The oil company chose the retired railway man partly because he had free use of the rail. Then, in the late 1850’s Edwin Drake was hired by the Seneca Oil Company to investigate suspected oil deposits in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Drake, a native of Greene County, New York, had spent his earlier life working as a clerk, an express agent, and a railway conductor on a brand new sometimes dangerous conveyance railroad. While petroleum oil was known prior to this, it was not available in large enough quantities to be very useful.Īccording to Ida Tarbell's 1904 book The History of Standard Oil, the oil well was not Drake's idea, but rather that of his employer, George Bissell.īissell sent Drake to the site in the spring of 1858. On August 27, 1859, a well that Drake built near Titusville, Pennsylvania struck oil. He was born in Greenville, New York on March 11, 1819. Edwin Laurentine "Colonel" Drake ( 1819- 1880), an American oil driller, is popularly credited with having "discovered" oil.

2060 marp8/28/2023 You can read more about all of Turing's best features here, but the long and short of it is that its titular 'ray tracing' technology essentially allows each RTX graphics card to simulate the way light works in real life, producing more accurate reflections, soft shadows, facial animations as well as more realistic lighting effects when bits of scenery get blown to pieces and suddenly you've got the sun streaming in a previously rather dark room. In case you've forgotten, Nvidia's new RTX cards are packed with lots of new fancy bits of technology that help make everything look a lot more life-like than before. Hang on a sec, what's so special about RTX again? It doesn't seem massively power-hungry either, judging by Nvidia's official Founders Edition specifications, as they only recommended a standard 500W power supply with an 8-pin connector to cope with its 160W power draw. The RTX 2060 also has more CUDA cores (sort of like the processing cores in a CPU) than the GTX 1060 - 1920 of them, to be precise, as opposed to just 1280 on the 6GB GTX 10 on the 3GB version, giving it a lot more oomph than either of its 10-series cousins. The GTX 1060, on the other hand, maxes out at 8Gbps and 192GB/s respectively. However, its in the memory department where the RTX 2060 really shines, as that 6GB of GDDR6 memory not only has a speed of 14Gbps, but its bandwidth goes all the way up to a whopping 336GB/s. By way of comparison, the reference specification for Nvidia's 6GB GTX 1060 has a base clock speed of 1506MHz and a boost clock speed of 1708MHz. Other manufacturers may well tweak this slightly to squeeze a few extra ounces of performance from them. Or at least the Founders Edition does, anyway. Still, faster than a GTX 1070Ti, you say? What kind of monster specs does this thing have? Surprisingly, the RTX 2060 still only has 6GB of memory like the upper-end version of its immediate predecessor, the GTX 1060 (albeit of the faster GDDR6 kind as opposed to the GTX 1060's slower but still quite nippy GDDR5X memory), but its GPU actually has a slower base clock speed of just 1365MHz, with a boost clock speed of 1680MHz. Is it enough to break into our best graphics card rankings, though? Only time will tell. Indeed, the Founders Edition will cost just $349 in the US (UK pricing to be confirmed), which is pretty good going considering it's actually faster than Nvidia's own GTX 1070Ti (so proclaimed Nvidia top man Jensen Huang during the press conference), which can currently be had for upwards of £400 / $450. You can see the whole family below, too, including cards from MSI, Asus, EVGA, Inno3D and Nvidia's own Founder's Edition to name just a few.Įxcited? Well, the best thing is that the RTX 2060 won't cripple your wallet like the rest of the RTX family. On Tuesday January 15th, the RTX 2060 will be available across the world both directly from Nvidia and dozens of third party manufacturers. The RTX 2060 is coming incredibly soon - in just over a week, in fact. Here's everything we know so far about their new, mid-range ray-tracing machine. Now, the long awaited RTX 2060 is joining the ranks, and I've just had my ear talked off about it at Nvidia's CES 2019 press conference. Microsoft ® DirectX ® 12 API, Vulkan API, OpenGL 4.Five months ago, Nvidia lifted the lid on their next generation of RTX graphics cards, the GTX 1080-beating RTX 2070, the sort-of-but-not-quite-as-good-as-the-GTX-1080Ti RTX 2080 and the 4K monster that is the RTX 2080Ti. GeForce RTX 2060 is light years ahead of other graphics cards. When it comes to next-gen gaming, it’s all about realism. This gives you up to 6X the performance of previous-generation graphics cards and brings the power of real-time ray tracing and AI to your favorite games. GeForce RTX graphics cards are powered by the Turing GPU architecture and the all-new RTX platform. The GeForce RTX 2060 is powered by the NVIDIA Turing architecture, bringing incredible performance and the power of real-time ray tracing and AI to the latest games and every gamer.

Autobot blaster memes8/28/2023 And since the fluctuations are so subtle, the sensors have to be exposed to the radiation for a long period of time-say, half an hour? to get a proper reading. No limits here. Fics can be any length, full ficcage to a few sentences. Feedback (also ANONYMOUS) is highly encouraged, though not exactly a rule. ** You can make and fulfill as many requests as you like. ** Pretty much all Transformer fandoms go. ** IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHO WROTE IT.KEEP IT TO YOURS ELF. Random folk will read your request and write you a drabble or ficlet, also ANONYMOUSLY. ** You ANONYMOUSLY post a kink request you've always wanted to read but were too afraid/embarrassed to ask for or write yourself. And I was like "EHHH?!" Seriously, the fandom itself is a kink and we don't have a kink meme. Transformers doesn't have it's own kink meme. And I was sitting in front of my computer late at night (goddamn innsomnia) and it hit me. I'm sure we've all seen one of these at some point.

Iliad and odyssey8/28/2023 If you repeat those languidly unspooling words, you’re making the noises of the surf.ĭown the Trojans came like a squall of brawling gale-winds blasting down with the Father’s thunder, loosed on earth and a superhuman uproar bursts as they pound the heavy seas, the giant breakers seething, battle lines of them roaring, shoulders rearing, exploding foam, waves in the vanguard, waves rolling in from the rear. So the sixth line is packed behind the fifth, imitating its sound cluster precisely the way in which the Trojan ranks, packed together in battle formation, are massed one behind the other.Īlso of note is the way that the two adjectives in the fourth line- paphladzonta, the “roiling” waves, and polyphloisboio, the “greatly-roaring” sea-replicate each other’s consonants: the “p”s, the “ph”s, the “l”s, the soft “s”s and “z” sounds. (In other words, the near-rhyming words do what the waves do.) And, as if to make the analogy concrete, the sixth line-which reconnects the imagined world of the sea to the narrated world of the Trojans at war-repeats the “some before … others hard behind” language of the fifth: the waves are all’ … ep alla the Trojans are alloi … ep’ alloi. Note, first of all, how the last words of the first, third, fifth, and sixth lines of this passage all end with the same sound combination, loaded with liquid “l”s ( aellêi, “maelstrom” polla, “many”: ep’ alla, “others hard behind,” ep’alloi, “others hard behind”): these liquid “l” sounds (with some explosive “p”s thrown in in the third, fifth, and sixth lines) beautifully evoke the sounds of the roiling waters, even as the insistent repetition of the “p-ll” sound cluster from line to line gives a sense of whitecaps breaking on the beach, one after another.
